O...I grew up the same way, but far far away... :-)

On thing worth mentioning is that the Slush Fund is actually funding little slush funds for the States, not trying to have a national policy for jungle gyms...Margalit Gur-Ariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08777722834145614546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503957686158274288.post-47674243594447200132013-05-02T13:21:22.749-05:002013-05-02T13:21:22.749-05:00You know, when I was a kid I could walk to the par...You know, when I was a kid I could walk to the park six or eight blocks away to play on that jungle gym. I could play in a huge field behind our street Abbeyfield Road. Click here: the field was the whole space bounded by the backyards on Carlton Oaks, Abbeyfield, Cuyamaca, and the creek. We could explore & play all day long without hovering adults, although Mrs. Armstrong did keep a pair of binoculars in her kitchen. We knew that. When I lived in Los Angeles (Arleta, really), we could play hide `n seek or army in the neighborhood until we got called in 30 minutes after the street lights came on.

A happy, healthy society requires order and some space. I like the Jungle Gym Slush Fund even though I think there ought to be thousands of them instead of one big one. There ought to be a way to prevent the privatization of every square foot in a neighborhood. Maybe the old Georgist Land Tax would make it easier to do zoning and prevent this hyperdevelopment.

What I'm getting at is we live in a very unhealthy society and I'm glad someone is thinking beyond pharmacotherpay, But we have a long way to go,Tom Leithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07787957132459123765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503957686158274288.post-31325037777274385442013-04-27T23:31:53.246-05:002013-04-27T23:31:53.246-05:00So true. He will be missed, along with a generation of elected representatives in both the House and Senate who are a vanishing breed -- smart, flexible, civil and not letting insistence on the perfect block realization of the good.
